This research found that “11% of trans Ontarians report experiencing high levels of transphobia and 51% have experienced moderate levels, 39% have experienced lower levels” (p. 2). The most common form of transphobia (96%) was hearing from others that being transgender is not “normal” (p. 1). Therefore, transphobia is extremely common in Western society, and has a lasting and damaging impact of transgender populations.
